About Active Release Techniques

Active Release Technique is a patented non-invasive, soft tissue treatment
that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
The treatment both locates and breaks down the scar tissue and adhesions
which cause pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness and physical dysfunctions
associated with repetitive strain injuries. ART increases the oxygen and
blood supply to injured tissues or nerve entrapments which allows healing
and encourages proper structural alignment.

Active Release Technique was developed by Dr. P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP
based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He began to develop ART in 1985 under
the name Myofascial Release. He observed how the muscles, fascia, tendons,
ligaments and nerves responded to different types of soft-tissue work. Dr.
Leahy noticed that his patients' symptoms seemed to be related to changes in
the soft tissue that could be felt when they became restricted or adhesed.
Presently, Active Release Technique is taught throughout the United States,
Canada, England, and Australia. Dr. Castellini is presently one of only 938
Certified ART practitioners nationwide.
